Description
Stevens Semillon comes from Neil Stevens’ Glen Oak vineyard on Marrowbone Road, our southern-most Semillon vineyard, which features a combination of light, sandy loams and darker, heavier transitional soils. The oldest plantings on this vineyard are from 1911.
Vintage 2018 was a strong Semillon vintage in the Hunter Valley. Dry, warm conditions that were similar to 2003 meant cropping levels were smaller than average and produced wines of great concentration and length of flavour.
Stevens Semillon is a special wine at Tyrrell's, which began making it in 1993 from a block owned by Neil and Bernadette Stevens. The wine inspired Bruce Tyrrell to develop a 'single site' range of wines. Tyrrell's cemented this wine's place within its portfolio by purchasing the block in 2022. The wine is in a sweet spot, with an expressive lemon curd aroma and a subtle smoky overlay. The palate exhibits the warmth of the vintage with delicious, subtle sweet pear and white peach flavours packed into a soft, cleansing palate. The wine is in its prime, with exceptional character and brightness. 96 Points - Toni Paterson MW, Halliday Wine Companion
