Poonawatta The 1880 Shiraz is one of the last remaining vineyards of its era, and one of the oldest in Australia. Established in 1880, this small, unique and special vineyard of weathered vines produces premium fruit with an exceptional heritage, underpinned by a foundation of quality and character formed over 140 years. As custodians of these wonderful old vines, we craft our flagship wine, The 1880 Shiraz; a wine with genuine heritage and true single vineyard provenance.
Deep, bright, bold red-purple colour; a powerful bouquet of spicy, chocolaty fruit and smoky coconutty oak, with a stony/metallic lift which may suggest a touch of volatile acidity but doesn't mar it at all. The wine is very rich and full, concentrated and plush-textured, with lovely fleshy mouth-feel allied with density and persistence.
