Description
Amazing aromas and flavors of salt butter, fresh ginger and lightly cooked apples. Freshly opened oysters. Full and fresh with a minerality. Wild and complex. But always subtle. 100% reserve wine going back to 1988 (97) JAMES SUCKLING – TASTED 2023
What precisely has been forgotten here? According to Rodolphe this cuvée is an on-trade speciality with great gastronomic potential, a blend form the three vessels which make up his Perpetual Reserve, the blend aged in tank for a year and then, for good measure, aged for an extra year on its fine lees on natural cork. Almost as if it has been forgotten in the cellar! Best not forgotten, this one, such is its complexity, the savoury notes of tobacco, iodine and even saffron perfectly poised; this is essentially a mature Chardonnay, the spices complemented by notes of dried apricot, honey and softly buttered toast.
