Description
2016 Tempranillo 'Reserva' - In Spain (the homeland of Tempranillo) the best parcels of red grapes are earmarked for "reserva" wines. To be called a reserva under Spanish law, these wines have to be at least 3 years old before they are released onto the market and must have spent at least one of those years in oak. In the Spanish tradition, we put aside some of the best barrels of Temp for extended aging in oak (24 months) and then a further 12 months in tank and 6 months in bottle before we decided it was ready to go! This wine demonstrates all of the layered complexity that is synonymous with Tempranillo - berries, over spice, over earth. The selection of the best parcels gives it power and concentration while the extended aging has allowed ample time for integration of spicy cedar and cola from the mix of French and American oak.
