Description
Dry Red Wine No. 2 is Yarra Yering’s ode to the Rhône, a co-fermented Shiraz-led blend with a distinctly Australian accent. First conceived by Dr Bailey Carrodus, the 2023 is almost entirely Shiraz with a small inclusion of Viognier, bringing fragrance and lift. The winemaking is meticulous, with hand-picked fruit, whole berries and subtle additions of Viognier skins and Marsanne, followed by 15 months in fine French oak. Australian Shiraz at its most refined and age-worthy.
“Dense ruby with rich purple tones at the rim. Blueberry, ground cumin and fennel with a touch of reductive lift on the nose. Loaded with blue fruits at the core, intense yet not overbearing. There’s layers of cured meats, subtle Sichuan pepper spice and floral lifts along the line with deeper wakame and iodine tones underneath. It’s all bound by a supple acidity and finely wrought tannins, gentle in their guidance but resolute in their persistence, carrying it for an age to an eventual bright and fresh finish.” 98 Points - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
“A blend of 99.5/.05% shiraz/viognier. Fermented with whole berries and matured in barriques (30% new). The cool vintage shows through in what's a lovely and elegant rendition of this Yarra Valley classic. Aromas of red and black fruits, spices and ironstone together with a gentle meatiness. Medium bodied and supple. An approachable and quite delicious Dry Red No. 2 that will provide copious amounts of enjoyment now and over the next 10–15 years.” 97 Points - Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
