Description
The farm voice of a distinct parcel of land: Rippon. On the western board of Roy’s Bay, Lake Wanaka, Rippon’s north-facing escarpment forms the meeting point of terminal moraines and coarse gravels, all based in schist, on which some of the region’s earliest vines were planted. Rippon is a Wine issued from all of the fully developed Pinot Noir vines growing in this land.
Waxy textured pinot of intensity and drive, a sense of precision and elemental earthiness. Clove-cedar woody character spreads over dark, savoury fruit character, ribs of tannin, brisk acidity, exceptional length and a sense of compactness and tension. It’s a masterful pinot noir, more intellectual than visceral pleasure at this point, but there’s a portal to the future in its character and it’s a wine for a decade and more – it needs some time to mesh and soak things up. So much going on, so much to look forward to, I believe. 94+ Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
