Description
A compelling and intriguing variety which makes an equally interesting wine originally hailing from Campania in the south of Italy. With bucket-loads of natural acid, these grapes stay vibrant and racy through the warm summer of northern Heathcote, meaning Greco can achieve fruit richness without compromising freshness.
The 2022 vintage was cooler and wetter than normal which saw longer hang times and plenty of flavour development. It is generous and lively with apple orchard, cardamon pods. guava, sherbet and red gum notes. In the mouth you get a sense of weight and seriousness, with old oak notes with a broader texture of complex layers and a buttery feel, all balanced out with natural acidity and chalky finish. - Chalmers Wines
Don’t let the name deceive you. Greco is a variety of Southern Italian origins, not Greek. Now in the capable hands of the First Family of Australia’s alternative variety community, who? The Chalmers? and thriving in their Heathcote vineyard, this is a wine capable of delivering both full throttle flavour and crucial freshening acidity in abundance. It’s like fiano on steroids, and it’s clearly here to stay. 92 Points - Nick Ryan, The Weekend Australian Top 100 Wines 2024
