Description
This is a very fine Kostas Rind, coming from the volcanic soils over clay on the lower Bindi Chardonnay plantings from 1988. Destemmed berries go into the press and the juice is taken straight from the tray into the barrels, around 25% of which are new small French oak. The fermentation occurs without yeast addition and the wine remains on all lees for ten months until just prior to bottling. The 2024 is beautifully fragrant with spice, lemon and white flowers aromas mixing with lovely nutty and wet stone complexity. It is fine and poised. The palate is fresh and energetic with excellent intensity. Initially it is gently creamy and then the fruit intensity combines with the acidity and fine phenolics to drive for a pure, balanced finish. It will improve for five plus years and live well beyond.
All Bindi wines are grown in our vineyards and made by us at Bindi. Our vines grow in a mix of ancient stony/rocky Ordovician soils and younger volcanic soil. We intensively manage the vines by hand and harvest by hand. We plough under vine and do not use systemic herbicides. We do not use systemic foliage sprays or pesticides. We use compost and compost tea and also use cow horn preparation, fish and seaweed. Our wines are made without adding yeast, yeast nutrient, enzyme or any fining agents. The wines spend many months on yeast lees in old and new French barrels. Our intention is to capture the expression of the Bindi landscape in our wines each season. - Winery Note
