Description
Loreto (within Ovello), Ovello and Cavanna. These wines can sometimes be a little ‘rustic’, but in 2019 it doesn’t seem to be a problem. And 2019 is a very good vintage for Piedmont.
Dark cherry, earthy and deep, black tea and dark spices, a little liquorice and violet too. It’s dark and brooding, firm and ferrous tannin, plenty of ripe dark fruit, and while it’s tea-like and savoury, it has succulence to go with it. Quite rusty with tobacco on the finish, but gee it has personality and lots of rugged impact. You need to love tannin (and of course I do) and with that caveat, I reckon this is something of a bargain and really very good. 93 points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
