SENTIO WINES

“This is a winery to watch” James Halliday

Founded by Chris Catlow in 2013, Sentio is a Chardonnay-focused project deeply rooted in Beechworth, one of Victoria’s most esteemed wine regions. More interested in site than spotlight, Chris has been in the vines since his teens. He started out with the legendary Barry Morey at Sorrenberg and went on to refine his palate and pruning skills with stints at Paringa Estate, Kooyong, and a few eye-opening vintages in Burgundy with Benjamin Leroux.

“Single-site Chardonnay was the main focus when I started Sentio,” says Chris. He sources from top sites across Victoria all in pursuit of precision, texture, and regional expression. The wines are wild fermented, basket pressed, and aged in French oak, but never overdone.

While Chardonnay remains the undisputed star of the Sentio show, Chris Catlow has a deft hand with other varieties too — crafting wines that are as expressive as they are refined. Grown in Victoria’s coolest pockets, these are site-driven bottles with energy, precision, and a strong sense of place.

“Making wines that represent where they’re from is the fundamental point,” Chris says. “I always loved seeing wines that give a story of the vineyard and the region.”

That ethos threads through everything he touches — including his Company Wine label, a small-production offshoot rooted in the varieties that thrive in Beechworth. Wines with a looser collar: complex, delicious and overwhelmingly drinkable, they’re made in tiny volumes for people who care more about character than convention.
