Description
Sierra de Toloño, led by the dynamic Sandra Bravo, is part of a new wave of Rioja producers focused on creating fresher, terroir-driven wines that highlight the vineyard over barrel ageing. Based in the cool, high-altitude area of Rivas de Tereso in Rioja Alavesa, the estate crafts elegant wines from old vines. This particular wine comes from small parcels of Viura nestled among predominantly red grape plantings in the foothills of the Sierra de Toloño.
“What a wonderful dry white this is. Lime, white nectarine, nuts, lemon zest, chamomile and aniseed. It’s crisp and fresh, has electric acidity, but also no shortage of flavour, albeit kind of discreet. The texture is all chalk dust and flint, and the finish is very long, kind of bony, but so satisfying. So bright and energetic. Cool and ‘mineral’. Unreal. And beautifully made.” 94 Points - Gary Walsh, Wine Front
