Description
Sierra de Toloño, led by the dynamic Sandra Bravo, is part of a new wave of Rioja producers focused on creating fresher, terroir-driven wines that highlight the vineyard over barrel ageing. Based in the cool, high-altitude area of Rivas de Tereso in Rioja Alavesa, the estate crafts elegant wines from old vines.
Sandra Bravo offers a remarkable high-altitude expression of Garnacha that bridges tradition and modernity. Once common in this part of Rioja but now rare, the grapes come from a single vineyard planted in 1944. Fermented and aged in 300L amphora, the wine combines purity and finesse with a mineral-driven structure, capturing the delicate beauty and distinct character of this historic site.
"This is only the fifth vintage of La Dula, but it has already established itself among the best Garnachas in Rioja. Featuring what Sandra Bravo calls "white wine acidity", this hails from vineyards over 600 metres in Rivas de Tereso and combines aromas of violet and wild herbs with a palate of redcurrant, raspberry and subtle minerality." 96 Points - Tim Atkin, 2024 Rioja Report
