Description
Fruit sourced from two vineyards, both planted in the ‘90s with classic Ordovician soils - a mixture of mudstone, shale, and granite. Handpicked, basket-pressed and fermented on lees. Fermented and aged in a combination of large-format oak (foudre) and barrique, some new. The structure and integrity of the fruit is intense. The generosity and depth of flavour an indication of a warmer growing season than the previous few.
It’s a wheaty chardonnay with powerful fruit flavour running throughout. It tastes of stones, white peach, almonds and cedar, a minerally, smoky, herb-butter aspect trailing through the finish. The power of it, the firmness, the length; there’s no room for doubt; it’s thoroughly convincing. 96 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
