Description
Fresh purple. Here the cherry fruit develops quite quickly on the nose. The Volnay is fuller on the palate, a generosity which makes the back end less firm. Raspberry and strawberry appear with the cherries at the back, there are just a few tannins, good acidity and very promising length. This year will make wines for long keeping, suggests Thierry. Tasted Oct 2023. - Jasper Morris
As usual including some declassified premier cru fruit, Glantenay's 2022 Volnay Village wafts from the glass with aromas of rose petals, sweet berries and cherries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and suave palate that's layered, pure and harmoniously balanced. The unassuming but passionate Thierry Glantenay continues to produce delicious, sensual wines in his cellars in Volnay. In 2020, he put an end to roganage (trimming the vines) by tractor. instead, Thierry now trims by hand, with shears, letting the canopies grow higher (in emulation of his upstairs neighbor in Les Rugiens, Thomas Bouley). In the winery, Glantenay prefers to let temperature and alcohol do the work of extraction for him, keeping pigéage and rémontage to a minimum during classical macerations in cement vats. He presses gently, and élevage, without racking until the mise en bouteille, takes place in at most 30% new barrels. 90-91 points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
