Description
It has updated packaging, so will add a bottle image when it comes to hand, rather than use the old one. This comes from Chardonnay vines planted in 1908, which certainly makes them the oldest in Australia, if not some of the oldest in the world. I note on the comments on the 2018, the compact Italian Stallion of wine, Fabio Pallottini (sommelier at Felix, at present, but currently in isolation, sadly), says that this is the ‘Best HVD Chardonnay ever’. Who’s to argue? I may find a horse’s head in my bed if I do. Speak softly somm, so no one hears us but the sky.
It’s tight, it’s tense, it has lime and white peach, plenty of crunch, a driving line of soft but sure acidity, a green olive savoury twist, a kiss of spicy oak, grip and superb length. Subtle vanilla and white flower perfume trails, and there’s just a whisper of struck match, a la mode. So clean and vigorous. Superb. 96 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
