Scarzello Barolo 'del Comune di Barolo'
Sarmassa, Terlo and Paiagallo are the MGA rolled into this all Barolo comune show. On of my more favourite producers, wine made in a very traditional style. 2013 is the current release here, just landed, and from one of the very best vintages in Barolo (and Barbaresco), for my money. Importer: Andrew Guard
It opened pretty strict, but came up beautifully with appropriate airing. Red fruit and cherry, new leather and rolling tobacco, subdued floral notes and some aniseed/mint. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and mature at once, a little bony in structure, contrasted with succulence and prettiness of fruit. Tannin is sure, some fine brick dust texture, and grip on the long finish. If you value elegance, and traditional styling, as I do, then this is a wonderful example. 95 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
