Description
Fruit is sourced from up to 10 Barossa vineyards predominantly coming from the higher altitude, cooler sites of Eden Valley. The wine allows a preview, or snapshot, of the vintage quality to come. The wine always receives 12 months barrel maturation in a majority older French oak (228L barrique), 5% of which is new, allowing the vintage and Barossa character to show clearly.
The 2020 was produced from the second drought year in a row, however it’s a wonderful year for traditional style Shiraz in the Barossa. Big fruit and richness in the mid palate, with some of the aromatic prettiness of 2018. We tried pushing a little whole-bunch fermentation into some of the Eden Valley components and even 10% Cabernet Sauvignon to hold freshness in the wine. This is a chance for me to play with the old adage, ‘The whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. Certainly, the best value, most traditional style and most popular wine of the portfolio.
